Who is the leafs new coach

Chynoweth replaces Dave Hakstol, now the Seattle Kraken head coach. This afternoon, the Leafs announced the hiring of Dean Chynoweth as an assistant coach. The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that the hockey club has hired Dean Chynoweth as an assistant coach. Instead, it was about assuring his staff — assistant coaches, trainers and equipment managers — were also taken care of.

Assistant coach Dean Chynoweth has reportedly been permitted to talk with other teams. Like many coaches, Chynoweth has been in the game for a long time. Then text 'em, email 'em, hell call 'em and tell them they changed your life.

Harden has already made an impact on Leafs captain John Tavares , who experienced a traumatic injury in last year's playoffs. He's had a lot of success with a lot of teams and a lot of players, many different sports, many different levels, so looking forward to his insight and how he can better us as people and a group. Harden will be a big help. He's very direct and I enjoy talking to people like that. He can help us work through some of the sludge of the season that you get stuck in.

When you have a professional helping you navigate the way through the mental game, it makes it easier. The star centre, who is recovering from off-season wrist surgery, skated with teammates for about 25 minutes, but left before the contact drills. And Matthews still isn't firing his shot like usual. There's still no timeline for his return to game action. While the surgery has disrupted his ramp-up program, the hope is it will actually help Matthews build on his Rocket-Richard-Trophy-winning year.

Will this benefit the Leafs? It benefits the league and benefits the game. We believe resting him for those minutes would produce more effective results over the long run. Use his offensive talents more five-on-five. Let other players grow their abilities to kill penalties. Rather than loading up one power play, create two equally competitive units. Play the units as equally as possible. Change these units regularly without any player having played more than a minute of ice time.

The power-play has shown signs of creativity this preseason under the direction of new coach Spencer Carbery. If the power play can start to work, it could be the single boost that moves the Maple Leafs over the top.

Before, it was easy to defend redundancy because the same thing happened over and over. Two different groups would offer two different looks. It would make the Maple Leafs less predictable than last season. We both understand the reasons a coach would play his best players as much as possible; however, that strategy can also backfire.
