Every class is unique. I would highly recommend it to everyone. I discovered Brad Sorabella when I was looking for someone to encourage me back into fitness after a few years of not looking after myself. I feel so lucky to have found him and not ended up with a substandard trainer in a gym or even one of the soulless, commercial chains of boxing gyms. I was interested in boxing and so searched for a local independent trainer.
Right away I knew Brad had the right approach and was a good fit for me. He invests so much time and energy in planning and conducting the training sessions.
He takes it seriously and I always felt like I was getting excellent and tailored professional advice and guidance. It was such a bonus to be introduced to Kettlebell by Brad — not necessarily something I was looking for initially but I grew to love and appreciate how good it feels to develop the skills, discipline, balance and strength that comes from it.
Makes me feel proud — of Brad and myself! Interspersed through this are quite a few challenging workouts. The RKC desires, and so should you, that the weekend is one of thriving and growing optimally, rather than surviving on the verge of breaking. They want you to be confronted with exhaustion and remain focused, disciplined, and enthusiastic despite it.
They want anyone who passes to have earned the certification beyond any shadow of a doubt. There are many methods to progress toward the snatch test, and many different strategies for completing it.
Some say to practice with swings, except a few weekends where you attempt the test itself. His plan includes one day a week of clean and press tests, striving for five minutes straight without putting down the bell. Your only rest is in the rack position.
Once you feel solid in your snatch technique, start with a two-minute snatch test, and add 30 seconds each week. This will steadily build you toward a good pace, as long as you continue your single-arm work, heavy double kettlebell work, volume, technique, and recovery. Your individual strategy for the test itself will depend on your specific strengths. For instance, being right-handed, I always started with my left hand, so that the more fatigued reps would be in my dominant hand. The preparation for and instruction during the RKC course spurred more enthusiasm and progress in my training than any previous period of my life.
Check out these simple workouts and fun exercises that can be done at-home with makeshift or no equipment at all. Topic: Fitness. The remaining portion of the RKC certification is based on how well you can demonstrate your technique of basic kettlebell exercises as well as how you can teach kettlebell basics to wiling volunteers.
Your technique will be tested on six skills: the swing, the clean, the get-up, the press, the snatch, and the front squat. All exercises will be tested with a single kettlebell with the exception of the front squat, which is tested with double kettlebells. Your teaching requirements will be evaluated on the final day of the certification process. You will have volunteers to work with and you must teach basic mobility drills, safety tips and basic kettlebell form to your participants with utmost professionalism.
In my personal opinion, the teaching portion of the certification is the most demanding portion of the certification. Do not take the teaching aspect lightly! Now that you have an understanding of what to pay attention to for this certification, here are some of my final tips to help you all pass this certification.
I have written about overtraining before, and there is a tendency to completely over train for a certification of this nature. I know that because I have done it myself oops! Keep your workouts short but intense, increasing your overall load incrementally over time.
You will notice that you will be stronger for it in the end. Be sure to find a local RKC instructor to help you with your basic drills. Dragon Door has implemented a middle weight class for the certification to make the RKC process fair for all participants. I have written about weight cutting issues before, and I cannot stress this enough.
It is better and might I add, healthier to allow your body to produce muscle mass in order to move more mass around in terms of heavy weights.
