Who knew that this small gift could stir such a response. Is it cool or useful l to use iron head covers? I can appreciate the views expressed during our conversation after the poll started, but not to fly in the face of the crowd, I am not convinced that these small protective devices are as all bad as we think.
Here are a couple of my favorite responses:. As captain of the cool kids…….. Less about the noise and more about protecting your investment. Love looking down at new looking heads even after 2 years!!
So yes for headcovers! Keep them fresh!! What I found interesting is that the only other reason except for caddies for not using the iron head covers was they were not cool. I am not sure that is a legit reason to not use them, but I have heard crazier reasons for not using some golf stuff. I want to thank everyone who participated in the poll and ensuing conversation. It was a great way to pass the time.
I look forward to more exciting talks on golf in the near future. And more importantly why should I care what anybody else thinks. Like Liked by 1 person.
Like Like. How interesting that this should cause such strong opinions! I use head covers on all my clubs including irons and wedges and it matters to me not a jot whether that is considered cool or otherwise. Cheers, Rob. By dennyjones , October 14 in Tour Talk. The bags are so big, the shaft tubes would never stay in one place anyway. The player doesn't have to carry the bag around the course, but they usually do for travel; in and out of airports, hotels, etc.
I doubt they do any damage, but who cares. Almost everyone gets free stuff anyway. They hit off of cart paths and rocks all the time. I'm sure they get those clubs replaced. Golfaway March 30, I think pros get their clubs replaced every match or maybe even every round by their sponsors. I remember seeing Tiger breaking an iron before when it hit a tree, he didn't cry over it. Awards, Achievements, and Accolades. RMD March 30, Tubes will cause your grips to wear faster.
Airport baggage handlers are notoriously careless when handling luggage, and the last thing you want is for your irons to be badly damaged en route to your destination. Placing iron covers on your irons before checking them in for your flight will give them far greater protection and security from any bad baggage-handling practices — and could be the difference between your clubs arriving scratch-free, or not. It also gives them greater protection when taking an Uber from the airport to your place of accommodation you can read more detailed information about taking golf clubs in an Uber here.
But golfers on the other side of the argument — those who treat their irons like their children — will likely scoff at those criticisms, and be far happier to use them knowing their clubs are safe and secure. Head covers are not an essential item in your golf bag, but they do work extremely well to protect your clubs — whether it be your driver, fairway woods, irons or putter — from damage.
You can buy covers that look like the American flag , you can buy covers that are bright red or lime green, or you can even buy covers that are emblazed with four-leaf clovers after all, everyone needs as much luck as they can possibly get on the golf course!
Having delved through reams and reams of golf iron covers, these are the top three I would personally consider buying if I was looking for a new set. Check them out on Amazon. They also come in a range of different designs and colors, and can even be personalised such as having your name embroided on them.
